We felt like part of a fun loving Italian family from the moment we walked in. A table that was sitting near the door told to come on in and sit in a booth. Apparently they drive 45 minutes each week to have dinner as a group. The food were large portions and hot. The sauce was okay. I felt the price was about $10.00 too high. But, for the market it was expected. It is worth a visit.

Horrible bought veal parm dinner with spaghetti sauce no seasoning veal was over salted overcooked will never eat there again

The waitstaff in this family run restaurant were really nice but the service was slow and the food was disappointing. Garlic knots were fantastic. Five stars for those. We got the house specialty which was a pasta with meat sauce, peas, and mushrooms with a marinara sauce and it was just so disappointing. Our 7 year old said the chicken nuggets in the kids meal was good.

Family owned Home made Sicilian food like my Sicilian grandma used to make! My son and I sampled our way through much of the menu and each dish was better than the last. We left stuffed with a new family of friends.

We visited this place last year on a girls trip. There were 4 of us and we all shared one another's dish...everything was delicious!!! Margherita Pizza was the best I've had, marinara sauce was really tasty, great meatballs, garlic knots...extremely friendly owners and waitstaff! You won't be disappointed here!

This place was awesome! I'm not a big fan personally of Italian but it was delicious! I came in a big group of people and they treated us like we were part of the family.

We stumbled upon Don Vito's after the Riverfront Music Festival last night. It was a little hole in the wall, so we didn't know what to expect. When we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly lady, who was our server, and who later told us she was the owner. This place isn't cheap, but not really expensive either. The four adults all had meals that were about $16 each and were all big portions. I had chicken parmesan as well as another dining companion, and the other two had chicken marsala and chicken picata. We all really liked the food. My daughter had the kid's spaghetti and meatballs (it was huge), which she made a big dent on. The lady brought the kid's meal out first, which was appreciated because my daughter was hungry and getting a bit restless. It was a great dining expirience. The staff is great and friendly, the food is delicious, and the prices are moderate. We will be coming back to try the rest of the menu.

Yeah 3rd tome here...always great. Veal parm....mmmmmm good. Get the garlic knots! They still have the most friendly family owned staff.

Great authentic Italian food. Everything is homemade and the portions are very generous.

  • Erin K.

The food was very good. We started out with garlic knots, then had pizza and an order of chicken parm and ended with tiramisu. For $15 (chicken parm), I kind of expected it to be a larger portion. It was probably a half of a chicken breast. The owners were nice, the lady was a bit touchy over moving the plastic little promo stands that were on the table. She told my 4yo not to touch them and moved them back. The tiramisu was delish but also very small portion.

  • Kelly S.

Definitely a great value -we ordered way too much food for our family of 4. The garlic knots were really good, however our kids were not huge fans. Great chicken parmesean and calzone! The sausage and peppers were good and it was a full plateful. Would recommend it.

  • Leo H.

Great food and service! We started with the garlic knots and mussels and followed that up with an order of Chix parm, meatballs &ravioli and a calzone (just the 1/2 size)...and ended with cannoli's! The waitstaff was attentive and interactive...great personalities! All and all very good time!

The Yelp reviews steered me here after a trip to the beach for a few days. The food was good but not the best Italian I've ever had. The prices are a bit steep for what you get. I got charged for an adult meal on a child's meal and I didn't notice until after I paid. They did give me a refund but I ended up tipping on the inflated amount. It was a slow dinner experience but we weren't in any hurry so that was no big deal. It appears to be a husband and wife team and the night we were there they had what I assume to be their two children in a booth by the bathroom. We should have skipped this meal and gone for fresh fish.

Don Vito's is not a fine dining establishment but don't let that fool ya. I felt as if I was hanging out with an Italian family in their dining room. Barbara and Jimmy were a pleasure to talk to and the food was excellent. I had the seafood delight and it was way more than enough and I'm a big guy. The bread was great. If you are looking for fancy decor and meals produced by a 5 star chef then this place is probably not for you but if you are looking for somewhere to get a great Italian meal and leave feeling satisfied then you will want to check Don Vito's out. P.S. The calamari is legit.

  • Margarita K.

Loved it! Just went in last night with my bf and his parents and it was the best time. They are a family from NYC which made me feel very much at home because that is where we are from. Food was amazing and everything is homemade! We had the chicken marsala, veal parm, veal fran, and spinach pizza. It's a small but homey spot, not too expensive just right. I recommend it and will be returning as this will be my new favorite spot.

Don Vito's is a great family owned Italian restaurant. I will definitely go back the next time I am in Daytona. My daughter and I split the Lasagna. The servings are really big and the food is excellent. I wish I would have saved room for dessert as the cheese cake and tiramisu sounded really good. The owner of the restaurant greets his guests while they are eating or waiting for cary out. I think that is a nice touch.

  • Marc S.

Holy cow! This place is absolutely AMAZING!!! I went with some friends that are local to the area. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left it was as if we are part of the family. Do yourself a favor... GO!!! The serving sizes are massive and well priced, the bread is great, the staff is even better!!!!!!!!

  • Jeff G.

I agree with several posts that defined the owners/service as very pleasant. The atmosphere was ok with nice booths and tables and plenty of Italian movie posters. The part that really stood out was the quality of the food. I rated it 5 stars because the Eggplant Parmesan was off the charts; don't miss it!

We were in town nearly two years ago (July 2011) when I looked on Tripadvisor back then to find us a "neat local joint" as I like to put it. Found Don Vito's. My family was greeted when we came in the door like we were old friends and the whole experience was very comfortable. The food was good enough that I went back twice on our trip. I'm glad to see that this place has a Yelp! Page. I'd love to see photos up though! At the end of the meal, we were BSing with the owner and his wife and I asked their story on the pizza. They're from New York and came down to get out of crappy weather. Totally understandable. They've managed to bring a piece of NY down with them in their food. Absolutely amazing. I'm from Chicago, and I was impressed by the pizza. Let's put it that way. I will return to Don Vito's the next time I'm in the area. I'm glad to see they're doing well :)

We loved this restaurant. I grew up in the East Coast but have spent 40 years in my beloved Pacific Northwest. There are few things about the East I miss but one of them is a restaurant like Don Vito's. Basic affordable Italian food. In the Pacific Northwest the waiter introduces himself " My name is Sean and tonight we are offering you a choice between kale soup and endive casserole. " At Don Vito's the waitress, who could play Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls says so where are you from Hon. Seattle. "So what do you want to eat Sleepless". I had Italian sausage with peppers and my wife had veal scallopini. Both were excellent and plentiful. We had enough for another meal. That plus four glasses of wine and a cannoli set us back $53. Please please come to the Pacific Northwest.

Me and my boyfriend stopped in here for dinner on August 19 after seeing all of the positive reviews on tripadvisor. As New Yorkers we have had our share of great Italian food, I can tell you now that Don Vito's has the best chick Parm we have ever had. The red sauce (which was passed down many generations) was amazing and the chicken was cooked to perfection. The wine was good, especially for the price. The cannolis, that are made by the owner herself, were to die for. The service was great and everyone was extremely friendly. The cook even came out of the kitchen to ask us about the food and our trip. Needless to say we will be coming back to Daytona just for the food. Don Vito's made our trip!

  • Melisa S.

This was our second time eating at Don Vito's. Last year we ate here based off of the reviews on Trip Advisor and were very happy with the food, the price and the service. So of course upon our return to Daytona we hit up the place again. Do not let the empty tables fool you. The food is excellent but what really makes the place? The service! The owners are there making sure you like what you're eating and chatting you up like an old friend. This may not be for everybody, but we enjoy feeling like family. You have to try the garlic knots...they are awesome!

I was there with 2 buddies of mine tonight and I can only say that it was more than what we expected it was excellent. The husband-wife owners and their daughter in law made our meal just fantastic. Fresh filled cannolis were perfect end for the dinner. This will be our new favorite spot

I can't give this place enough stars. We were vacationing in Daytona a few yrs ago and we absolutely fell in love with this place. We found this restaurant on trip advisor and we never regretted it. The owners were so kind and hospitable that we just hated to leave. And the food, oh my, it was amazing. We had lasagna, pizza, spaghetti and the rolls. We wanted to bottle up their red sauce and bring it home with us. I sure wish they has something like that around here. Not only good people but good food to boot. Absolutely amazing... We are coming back to Daytona and Don Vito's is a big reason why. We still wished they shipped there sauce. Glad to see you all are doing well because we would be truly disappointed if you closed down for no apparent reason. Keep it up and see you soon, your Indiana clan.

Nice family owned restaurant! Took great care of us with excellent service. Food portions were big...come hungry. Cooked special and prepared a fresh dish not on the menu. Will be back when visiting Daytona Beach!

For our one night in Daytona Beach, we gambled on Don Vito's. I'm glad we did. Our food was delicious, and I eat a lot of Italian food. The family who owns this restaurant gave it an extra boost by talking with us at our table, and even warning our lactose-intollerant friend that perhaps ordering his meal without cheese would be incredibly lacking. The chef personally offered to make him something else after that warning. It was a great choice that we would definitely visit again if we ever find ourselves back in Daytona. You have to order the "pinwheels" to get the full experience. ;-)

Worth the Trip from Orlando to have a great Italian meal. This time we invited friends to join us. All they could say was WOW now we see why you drive the hour and 20 minutes to eat here. The red sauce is the best and every item we order was so good and they serve very large portions. Everything is homemade so make sure you are not in a hurry. The owners are two wonderful people who care about making sure your order is right and that you enjoy your meal. We will be Back soon.

The ambiance is casual and authentic. They played lots of Sinatra and other Italian favorites as well as adorn the restaurant with mobster memorabilia. The service was probably the best thing about this family owned business. A husband and wife duo, the two made sure that everyone was enjoying themselves. I had the eggplant parmesan sub. It came on what looked like a kaiser french roll with poppy seeds and italian seasoning on it. This might have been good, but the chef burned the bread,so the sandwich tasted burnt. The actual eggplant wasn't bursting with flavor either. I usually order eggplant parm at italian restaurants and they mostly all taste the same. However, Don Vito's lacked flavor and gusto. I'm sure they have many other dishes on their menu that excel all others, but the Eggplant Parmesan was not that one.

Update based on the owners comments.... No apology was ever made to us. There is no sign indicating customers should wait to be seated, so we sat ourselves at a clean, empty table. No one spoke to us as we entered the restaurant. If someone had greeted us and told us the restaurant (with empty tables) was full, we would not have seated ourselves and we would have left. As for being determined to stay and eat... yes, I would have liked to stay. Four of the six people in our group were over the age of 60 and two required the assistance of a cane to walk. Leaving to find another restaurant was not ideal. But when no apology is given and we are told (not asked) to leave, I am not going to be a nice. My original comments are accurate and not embellished. Please note the eventual apology from the owner in the comments of this review was after she told me why we were wrong. That is the attitude we received when we were told to leave. I still suggest you find another restaurant in which to spend your money.

DELICIOUS!! Vacationing in Daytona Beach and Yelped for Italian and this had the best reviews! The best Spaghetti and meatballs I have had! Great pizza and calzones too! The garlic knots were excellent! The service was wonderful. Very attentive waitress and the hilarious chef visited many times to be sure we were enjoying our food and to chat! Highly recommend this restaurant!!

So after much research on an alternative Italian restaurant , I came up with Don Vito's. I was excited to try it out as I love finding new places to eat and the reviews were so good. As soon as I arrived and seen the state of the restaurant and the attire of the staff and I was immediately taken back. The rug is old and dingy and the booths were held together with electrical tape, overall very poor decor. Also it is Florida and their AC system was not working properly bc it was quite stuffy inside. I immediately said I better order the pizza to be safe but after over hearing a conversation at the next table about how much they look forward to eating here on vacation, I figured I would give it a try not wanting to judge a book by its cover. The waitress was very pleasant and informative and made plenty of suggestions. I ordered chicken parmigiana and my DH ordered Shrimp Fra Diavlo. Food arrived fast but we were saddened when we seen our plates. It looked like our food was swimming in gravy aka sauce. Let me say that it had to be the worst gravy that I have ever had in my life. It tasted like it was seasoned with Spanish seasoning. It was tart and runny. The chicken and shrimp were rubbery and my chicken was sitting in a pool of oil. The pasta was so bad I only took one bite. I am Italian and come from Brooklyn so I know I have high standards for my Italian food and I am sorry to say this was by far subpar and honestly the worst Italian restaurant I have been to. It would not last one day in NYC. They state everything is home made which it may very well be but not everything that is homemade is good. I swear I would have preferred Ragu or Prego ( and that is sacrilegious) but it was that bad. Also the bread has got the be the worst thing I ever tasted. It was so dry it just broke into pieces and the butter came as a liquid. I would not recommend. Stay away, there are better Italian restaurants with better prices near by. Oh and their bday routine has to go. Nobody wants to hear the owner scream happy birthday in a mega phone all while blasting siren sounds.

We visited Don Vito's on 3/29 for dinner. We had an absolutely fabulous meal that evening and truly enjoyed our time. Although they were short handed, they were up front letting us know that it may take a bit longer than expected, but that we would leave happy. They were absolutely right. The food was fantastic, my son who is a pasta freak said it was some of the best pasta and meatballs he had ever had (and he has had many). We were treated like family by the end of the night we felt like family. Vito and his wife were hysterical and made the visit even more pleasurable. We currently live in TN, but are from NY originally. That kind of hospitality and flair is rarely found these days as chain restaurants take the fun out of eating out. It was a pleasant and rare surprise

Great food. I had chicken parmesan & my husband had eggplant Parmesan. Dinners come with pasta with homemade sauce. Wish I could take the restaurant and delightful waitress home with me to Maui.

While visiting in the area, I decided to try this place based on yelp reviews and trip advisor. Ouch. Big Mistake. First, we were seated at a dirty table. We both assumed the waitress would clean it off right away, but she did not. It took her about five minutes to come back and do it. Looking around, every other empty table (about five) were also still dirty and stayed that way for the majority of our meal. Our waitress was clearly very busy but kept insisting to the other waitress she would take us. 15 minutes later when we still had not had our drink orders taken, she finally told the other waitress to take us. At the same time we ordered our food and requested bread. Two other tables that ordered after us got their bread. We still had not gotten our bread even though we were seated a good 20 minutes before the other two. We asked again. Our waitress said "Sorry, I had to let it defrost." Uh what? Your menu says you bake bread fresh daily..? Finally, our bread came out. It was unlike any italian bread I had ever eaten. The core of it crumbled into large chunks when you tried to butter it and it was abnormally spicy. While waiting for our food, the owner and I believe the husband of the woman who attempted to serve us at first, came around to all the tables. I think this is a nice touch in restaurants, letting the customers know you care, etc. etc. However, this guy was in a raggedy t-shirt, dirty jeans and a baseball cap. If this was a pizza place only, then sure, go for it, but not in a decently priced restaurant. I got the chicken parm and something about it just was not right. It tasted burnt and overly seasoned. The tomato sauce tasted super sweet like it was out of a jar. Overall, never going back and telling everyone I can in the area NOT to try this place.

Very good Italian food. Excellent, friendly service. It's a family affair Mom's hosting and Waitressing, while Father and sons are in the kitchen making their old family recipes. The Italian bread is baked in house and is great! Look forward to sampling the rest of the menu!

Great place, family feel, best pizza in town. Found the place in 2011 and made sure we stopped in 2 weeks ago. The "Don" and his lovely wife made this very enjoyable. Worth your dime and your time.

Great service. The owner and her family are so sweet and friendly. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and my sister had another pasta dish, which she ordered spicy. Here's a caution: DO NOT ORDER SPICY. We are Southeast Asian and we usually eat really spicy food, but this was a whole different kind of spicy. The food was good and it came in a big portion. One order of spaghetti can feed up to three people. I would definitely go back if I am in the area.

  • Ryan P.

Great service besides forgetting our bread. Above average meatballs subpar marinara watery. The penne alla vodka was tasty except we were not sure it was vodka sauce maybe worth a shot but at 13 dollars probably not. The place probably deserves 2.5 stars but I have a feeling the owners review the place themselves thus giving the place a way higher star rating than it deserves.

Nice family. Great marinara--my husband would have liked it in a bowl with a spoon! I love cannolis. Could use a little more help when they get busy.

Gave this place a try in a search for good Italian in Daytona Beach. I think we will be back to Don Vitos. First, I will say this is NOT the place to go if you are in any type of hurry, or don't like to wait. I think we waited at least 30 minutes for our food after we ordered- maybe 35. This is a family run establishment- if you are offended by your waitress having a baby on her hip while she takes your order, maybe not a good option- we thought it was charming though. After dinner, the chef (husband of our waitress, father of the rest of the staff) came out and chatted with our table and other diners. We liked it- but not everyone would. NOW for the food. Everything was GOOD. But nothing was the "best we've ever had". Lasagna was really nice, pizza was good, the calzone was huge and pretty tasty. The canolis- I loved, but again, not the BEST. I'd say, as long as you're cool with quirky and not expecting to be blown away, give Don Vito's a try!

If you want everyday Italian fare (pizza, subs, pasta, usual entrees) in a casual setting, with just about the nicest and most personal service imaginable, this is the place to go. The owners basically treat you like you're a guest in their home - they make sure you know exactly what you're ordering, they ask how you like it made, and they come by throughout the meal to check in on you and just shoot the breeze about just about anything. This place reminds me of some of the great Italian joints I knew growing up in North Jersey. I only wish we lived in Daytona Beach - we'd definitely be regulars here.

Great place!!! Food was amazing. Dessert was even better. The staff was so entertaining and friendly. I was going to upload our food photos. But they looked exactly like they do on yelp. This place is for real.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations.
